Over the course of three weeks Hakai Insitute is sponsoring a scientific bioblitz of Quadra Island.
The purpose of this event is to conduct an intensive biodiversity inventory of marine and terrestrial organisms at our research station and in the surrounding ecosystems.
In addition to species observation, we will be sampling genetic material to improve local genetic databases of BC flora and fauna, capture high-quality imagery, and contribute to a vouchered museum collection. The resulting data will be freely available in the Barcode of Life Database (BOLD) and on iNaturalist. We will be hosting specialized researchers from BC and other provinces in Canada, as well as scientists from the US.
